Why is washing your swimsuit properly important?

After a good day of swimming, your swimsuit has been exposed to the sun, has absorbed sea water, pool chlorine, sunscreen, or even perspiration: all these elements are likely to damage the fibers of your swimsuit and loosen the fabric or dull the colors.

Washing your swimsuit properly is therefore not just a matter of hygiene, it is also the key to keeping it beautiful for longer. The first step begins with a systematic rinsing of your swimsuit in clear water after each use.

Washing your swimsuit by hand vs. in the machine: which to choose?

Hand washing

As with lingerie, hand washing is recommended for your swimsuits. Gentler than the machine, it allows you to pay more attention to the underwires, for example, or to avoid snags that could damage the material.

The ideal technique? Nothing could be simpler:

  • Wet your swimsuit with lukewarm water and wash it with a mild soap
  • Rub gently without twisting
  • Rinse thoroughly with clear water

Don't forget to rinse the swimsuit after swimming to remove an initial part of the residue!

Machine washing

"When you put a swimsuit in the machine, it can soak in water, which risks damaging the colors. Depending on the programs you have on your machine, the wash might also be too hot and damage your swimsuit."  Guilhermina, our head of the design office

Our lingerie expert does not recommend washing your swimsuits in the machine. The washing machine damages the elastic fibers of the swimsuit and deteriorates its shaping properties and support, considerably reducing its lifespan.

In addition to washing, machine spinning is not suitable and damages the fibers.

Drying and storing the swimsuit

Drying your swimsuit is just as important as washing: it is not a step to be neglected, and you avoid undesirable odors in the process!

Don't worry, for this step too our advice is quite simple: dry your swimsuits in the open air, if possible flat and without direct exposure to the sun.

In the list of things not to do, using the tumble dryer ranks first. We also avoid twisting the swimsuit to wring it out: place it in a towel and press it to remove the water.

For storage, put your swimsuits in a dry place and, for models with molded cups, be careful not to crush them to preserve the shape of your swimsuit.
