Under Skirt Secret

Sale price17,50€

The underskirt is the discreet piece that changes everything under a dress or a lightweight skirt: no more see-through fabric, no more dress clinging to your tights. Our Secret underskirts, in a soft stretch knit, come as a black underskirt or a nude underskirt, from M to XXL, individually or in a set of 2.

What is an underskirt?

An underskirt, also called a half slip or waist slip, is a lingerie piece worn at the waist, under a skirt or a dress. Unlike the skirt, which is made to be seen, the underskirt stays hidden: it lines the garment to make it opaque and help it hang well. Once full and layered, today's women's underskirt is thin, supple and designed to be forgotten.

Why wear an underskirt under a dress or skirt?

Say goodbye to see-through fabrics

Cotton summer dress, voile skirt, light linen: against the light, your silhouette and knickers quickly show through. Worn under the dress, the underskirt adds an opaque layer that solves the problem without changing your outfit. It's the natural partner to our invisible lingerie, designed to leave no marks under clothes.

A dress that hangs well and doesn't cling to your tights

With tights, some dresses ride up or catch with every step. An underskirt for dresses creates a smooth surface between your tights and the dress fabric: the dress glides and falls back into place, even after you've been sitting down.

Less friction between skin and fabric

The underskirt covers the hips and upper thighs with a soft knit, avoiding direct contact with a rough fabric or a scratchy lining. It doesn't separate the thighs, though: if chafing is your main concern in warm weather, anti-chafing shorts are the most effective solution, and they're easy to wear under a dress.

How to choose your underskirt

Black or nude underskirt?

The rule is simple: under a light, white or pastel dress, choose the nude underskirt. Close to your skin tone, it stays invisible where a white one would show. Under a dark dress or skirt, the black underskirt is the obvious choice. To cover your whole wardrobe, the set of 2 underskirts in black and nude is better value than two single pieces.

Which underskirt length for your dress?

Our Secret underskirt is a short underskirt: it measures from 36 cm (14 in) in size M to 39 cm (15 in) in XXL. It covers the hips and upper thighs, where see-through fabric shows the most, and stays invisible under a short dress as well as a midi or maxi skirt. It doesn't reach the knees: worth bearing in mind under a very sheer long dress.

Finding your underskirt size, from M to XXL

Take your usual size. This plus size underskirt comes in 4 sizes, from M to XXL, for hips from 92 to 124 cm (36 to 49 in). Its elasticated waist and stretch knit move with you and stay in place without squeezing. Torn between two sizes? Our advisers can help you during a personalised advice appointment.

An underskirt in soft lyocell and modal knit

Our underskirt is knitted from 48% lyocell, 48% modal and 4% elastane. Lyocell and modal are two plant-based fibres made from wood cellulose, valued for their softness and fluid feel. Elastane provides the stretch that lets the underskirt follow your curves. Thin and light, it layers over shapewear knickers without adding bulk.

Underskirt, full slip or half slip: which to choose?

Underskirt and half slip refer to the same piece, worn at the waist. A full slip, on the other hand, has straps and lines the whole dress, bodice included: the right choice under a flowing dress whose top is also sheer. For a skirt, or a dress where only the bottom is the problem, the underskirt is enough. And under a blouse or a light top, the Secret camisole takes over.

Frequently asked questions about underskirts

What is an underskirt?

An underskirt is a lingerie piece worn at the waist, under a skirt or a dress. It stays hidden and makes the garment opaque, stops it clinging to tights and helps it hang well.

What is the difference between a skirt and an underskirt?

A skirt is a visible garment, part of your outfit. An underskirt is worn beneath it: it's an undergarment, thinner and lighter, whose role is to line the skirt or dress.

What is an underskirt for under a dress?

An underskirt under a dress removes the see-through effect of light fabrics, stops the dress riding up or catching on tights, and adds a soft layer between skin and fabric.

What is the difference between an underskirt and a full slip?

An underskirt is worn at the waist and covers the lower body. A full slip has straps and lines the whole dress, bodice included. Choose a full slip if the top of your dress is also sheer.

What colour underskirt should I wear under a light dress?

A nude underskirt. Close to your skin tone, it disappears under white or light fabrics, whereas a white or black one would show. Keep the black underskirt for dark dresses and skirts.

How do I choose my underskirt size?

Take your usual size. Our underskirt comes from M to XXL, for hips from 92 to 124 cm (36 to 49 in). The elasticated waist and stretch knit give support without compression.

Does an underskirt prevent thigh chafing?

Not really: an underskirt protects your skin from the dress fabric, but it doesn't separate the thighs. To prevent thigh chafing, choose anti-chafing shorts, which can also be worn under a dress.

How do I wash an underskirt?

Follow the care label on your underskirt. Lyocell and modal prefer a gentle, low-temperature wash, ideally in a laundry bag, and air drying: the knit keeps its softness and shape.
